A Scholar's ink last longer than a martyr's blood.jpg

Founded by historian & actor Liam Alex Heffron, the ANSEO! project digitally archives our statutory national school records, by gathering the images of each page, of each record book, taken by our enthusiastic volunteers. The result is a unique archive of digital records from primary schools and their communities, holding a wealth of interest for genealogists, academics, historians and any of us who went to school in one of these schools.

The Schools

The Schools

All sixty-eight established primary schools based in North Mayo and West Sligo, are participating in the ANSEO! project. Most of these schools also hold obsolete records relating to closed or amalgamated schools which once existed nearby. Unfortunately, many record books have been lost and others dispersed into private hands. That said, a large amount still survives in these schools and has been cataloged by our team. The digitisation programme is ongoing for the remaining records in these schools, with an estimated 72% completed as of August 2018.
